Join Peter Woolley on The Travelling Sketchbook where we will be sketching and walking, enabling us to reach parts of Exmoor National Park that other painting holidays cannot reach…probably!
How will it work?
Each morning we will be dropped off by mini-bus and we will either go on a linear or a circular walk where we will walk a short distance and then spend time sketching. Lunch will be a packed lunch giving us flexibility and will be at a place where we can do more sketching.
We will then continue on route sketching and walking and will be picked up by mini-bus at our destination for linear walks or back at the start point for circular walks.
Walks will have some ups and downs, given the nature of Exmoor National Park. However, they will be more of a stroll than a route march and each section will be around a mile and we will cover around 3-4 miles by the end of the day, so it is only suitable for those with good mobility.
Non-sketching partners can come on the stroll or go on a more strenuous route as they wish.
Sketch-books will be provided but you need to bring and carry all your own equipment so only bring limited equipment and travel sets on the walk.
However, some studio work will be included in order to produce full paintings from your sketches so please bring all your normal equipment with you on the holiday, a list will be provided nearer the time.
About Your Tutor
Peter is your ideal tutor because he loves the wild and rugged landscape of Exmoor's Moorland Scenery.
Peter will show you how to simplify the scene in front of you in order to get the right composition so you can paint simple, yet dynamic sketches.
His approachable style of teaching will enable you to get the most from your sketches as he will assist you in this process.
He will demonstrate a scene each day and give tips and techniques the rest of the time through advice and thumbnail sketches and will spend much of his time giving one-to-one tuition.
Where will we go?
Possible routes will be from the Moors to the coastal village of Porlock Weir, along the Barle Valley and down the Lyn Valley through Watersmeet to Lynmouth.
